Roundabout Analysis Tool

Roundabout SignDuring a recent value engineering workshop, Stolfus applied a new (to us anyway) roundabout analysis tool and found it easy to use yet robust enough for detailed planning and conceptual design applications.  AnalysisToolv2.1.xlsx was developed by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) and implements the current Highway Capacity Manual 2010 (HCM 2010) methodology; as well as a calibrated version of the HCM 2010 model that makes use of recent empirical data from studies completed in Oregon and California.

Measures of effectiveness (LOS, delays, queue lengths, v/c ratio) are provided by lane and approach for both the HCM 2010 model and the calibrated model making comparative results easy to obtain.  In our opinion this is a well-designed tool that may be of use to roundabout practitioners; particularly as it relates to testing alternative roundabout configurations.
